Maryann Oghenerukevwe Smatt-Oni is a seasoned professional, astute administrator, licensed human resources manager, and certified leadership and transformational mentor and coach with over 20 years of experience in the financial sector and more than 14 years in public service. Her career spans strategic management, human resources, policy development, credit resolution, business and data analysis, project management, and general administration.
Currently serving as Assistant Vice President, Head of AMCON Lagos Office, and Head of AMP Resolution Lagos at the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), she provides leadership, administrative oversight, and credit recovery strategies that have consistently surpassed targets. Her achievements include spearheading technological improvements, developing an end-to-end resolution dashboard, and optimizing loan recovery processes while enhancing team productivity.
Maryann has previously excelled as Deputy Head of Human Resources and Head of Performance Management and Compensation, where she set up AMCON’s HR Department and implemented a best-practice performance management framework. Before AMCON, she contributed significantly to human resources and recruitment at Zenith Bank Plc and Oceanic Bank International Plc (now EcoBank Plc).
She is also deeply engaged in youth empowerment through the Quest Mentoring & Coaching Programme for Young Leaders, a flagship initiative of the Quest Centre, mentoring young professionals in employability and career acceleration.
Maryann holds an M.Sc. in International Human Resources Management and Comparative Industrial Relations from the University of Manchester (Manchester Business School), a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and is currently pursuing her Global MBA at the Roxbourg Institute of Social Entrepreneurship, Switzerland. She is a Fellow Professional Mentor & Coach (FPMC), Certified Leadership Coach & Mentor (CLCM), Certified Transformational & Productivity Coach (CTPC), and a Licensed Human Resources Professional. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), and a Certified ACCA Data Analyst.
Her professional journey reflects integrity, empathy, and ethical leadership. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, and mentoring the next generation of leaders.
